I guess the US Government and TSA learned an important lesson, metal detectors can only detect metal! Not plastic explosive devices. Its also hard to believe the spin the government tries to put on the event by saying their security worked because the terrorist failed to detonate the bomb? Are you serious? America got lucky this time.

New Research Report: Malaysia Autos Report Q1 2010

Dec 26, 2009 – Although Malaysia's new vehicle sales for March showed signs of improvement from the previous month, total sales for Q109 remain down year-on-year (y-o-y) and confirm BMI's view that there will be no repeat of last year's record growth in 2009. Sales for March rose by 20.5% to 44,205 units compared with February. However, this was 4.8% lower than results for March 2008, and sales for Q109 are down by 9.2% at 118,681 units compared with Q108 figures. The Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) expected further improvement in April on the back of a new government stimulus package. The association stands by its annual sales forecast of 480,000 units despite a slow start to the year. Similarly, BMI forecasts a drop of 10% to 475,926 units this year, although we then expect a 2% rebound to 486,480 units in 2010. Despite the continued downturn, France's Peugeot is optimistic, with plans to launch four new vehicles through local distributor Automotif Naza Group in 2010. Manager of the distributor, CK Chow, has said that although its sales were down by 10-20% for the year so far, the Peugeot brand is proving popular. In March, the Malaysian Reserve reported that Naza and Peugeot were jointly planning to develop a 1.6-litre compact car. The development is aimed at making Malaysia a production hub for the region. The small car segment has also attracted national producer Proton, which has confirmed a joint venture (JV) with Japan's Mitsubishi Motors (MMC) to develop a small car for launch under the Proton brand in 2010. Although Malaysia ranks ninth in BMI's Business Environment Ratings for the Asia Pacific autos industry, the country attracts manufacturers to set up vehicle hubs thanks to its geographical position. The country's marks for Production and Sales Growth Potential are relatively average compared to other markets, which brings its overall rating down to 50.2 out of a possible 100. In terms of its general Business Environment, however, Malaysia scores well for its transparency and fiscal policy, which will act as a draw for investors. One such investor is Toyota Motor, which was the best-selling foreign brand in Q1 with sales of 17,313 vehicles. The automaker's nearest rival sold over 6,600 fewer vehicles in the same period. UMW Toyota Motor's managing director, Kuah Kock Heng, has said that in the month of March, sales rose by 33% to 7,113 vehicles from 5,367 vehicles in February. Overall market leader Perodua sold 38,300 units, comprising of 11,900 in January, 12,200 in February, and 14,200 in March. The company expected sales of 15,000 units for April.

A. Arnold Celebrates 10 Years As WQXE Toy Factory Sleigh

For the past 10 years A. Arnold’s big blue truck has served as the official “sleigh” for the WQXE Toy Factory. The Quicksie Toy Factory has been collecting toys for needy families from factories in the Hardin County Area for 18 years. Nine local factories participated in this years Toy Factory and all the donated toys go to Helping Hand and North Hardin Hope on behalf of the factories.
Jennifer Meyer, the event coordinator at Quicksie said “Thanks so much to everyone at A Arnold World Class Relocation for their contributions to the Quicksie Toy Factory over the past 10 years! It wouldn’t be success it is today without their help!”
“A. Arnold is proud to be a part of this great effort and salutes Quicksie for their initiative in starting and perpetuating this most worthwhile project.” said Bruce Colton, Vice President of Local Operations in Louisville.

Dec 19, 2009 – The economic crisis has triggered a steep fall in sales and a slump in production growth. While the sales picture is undeniably bleak this year, a swift recovery is expected from 2010 as a result of a surge in demand caused by purchase delays this year. The economic crisis has put Russian sales on a sharp downward trajectory since late last year. A clampdown on credit has constrained lending for autos loans, while the slowing economy has caused consumers to rein in their spending. The Association of European Businesses (AEB) has estimated that new car registrations plunged by 40% in Q109 compared with the same period last year. Falling demand has prompted carmakers to operate on reduced capacities this year. According to the Russian Ministry for Economic Development, passenger car output declined by nearly 69% year-on-year (y-o-y) to 65,100 units over January-February. Manufacturers have resorted to production cuts in order to avoid inventory accumulation. Automakers are finding it difficult to obtain funding from financial institutions. Russian carmaker IzhAvto confirmed in April it would close its Izhevsk Automobile Factory in western Russia indefinitely. The operator, owned by SOK Group, made losses and was hit by liquidity constraints. It is the first carmaker in Russia to completely close its operations due to the global economic crisis. The Russian government has announced more than US$1bn (RUB31.1bn) in direct aid to carmakers in Russia in order to help prevent job losses. In April, Russian state-controlled bank VTB provided a loan of RUB4bn (US$117.5mn) to AvtoVaz, the largest domestic carmaker. Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has said that the manufacturer may eventually receive more than RUB20bn (US$587.4mn) in state funds. Other government measures aimed at boosting sales include a hike on imports and a subsidy scheme. The general lack of financing from banks, coupled with the overall fall in market sales, will impact production and sales this year and put the brakes on expansion. This is evident from Hyundai's plan to move slowly with its plant expansion. BMI forecasts total vehicle production growth of just 5% y-o-y compared with 18.4% and 11.4% y-o-y in 2007 and 2008, respectively. Sales are expected to nudge up to 3.82mn units this year compared with 3.61mn last year. Over the forecast period, we remain upbeat over the prospects for Russia and see production and sales growth resuming. BMI believes the country is still poised to become the biggest market in Europe, but we don't see that happening until 2013, when GDP per capita should register at over US$18,800, up by 80% over 2007 levels. Rising income should provide a basis for healthy consumer spending and help sales reach 5.75mn units.
